  • This is an authentic Boot Hill for what was originally a true frontier town on the edge of Comancheria in the years following the Civil War. The bus-loads of Blue Hairs who visit the Square rarely make it out here, but they should. Five generations of my family are buried here, including General Hiram Granbury and Burr Morris (7th TX Cav) CSA. In the Morris family plot are the remains of the widow of Sheriff Morris' ex-body servant Toby. Adjacent is the obsequy of my great uncle William Royal Morris, who died in infancy. The stone is a heart breaker. Come learn the silent testimony of a lot of friends and family. They won't mind.

It's hot, there are few trees, and the place feels like a campground trailer park. Not my idea of a great place to stay the night or eons.

  • Visited late at night to find Jesse James' grave along with General Granbury's grave. I was told this Jesse James headstone is the only one paid for by his descendents. That made is slightly more believable that it might be true. Surprised Granbury's grave was fairly low key. Expected statue or something more impressive. Awesome visit though

  • Contrary to the review posted by Michael Sandidge, it is not confirmed that the real Jesse James is buried in this cemetery. In fact, DNA testing seems to prove he is not, unless you want to subscribe to the "They dug up the wrong grave." theory. So who is burred here? Well General Granbury, that's who. Also buried here is Ashley Crockett, grandson of the famous Texas hero, Davy Crockett. I have uploaded a cemetery map, available from the Granbury Visitors Center, 116 W Bridge St.
